XS OPEN (2020)

Now in its third year, XS is a program of contemporary, experimental and live art for children. Kids under 12 have the least pre-conceived ideas of what art should be, which fits our adventurous get-outside-of-your-comfort-zone spirit here at Melbourne Fringe.

XS has seen some of Melbourne’s most exciting artists commissioned to create works for children, including: the Green Room Award nominated Sonic Labyrinth, which was an immersive sound-art installation by Aviva Endean and Justin Marshall; the award-winning immersive performance This is Grayson, by Gold Satino; the contemporary experimental dance work Paradise by Philip Adams; the interactive soundscape experience that was We Are The Robots, by Jack Burton, Caitlyn Lesiuk, Monica Lim, Mulyana & Patrick Telfer; and the site-specific multimedia installation of the smallest nightclub in the world with Infinity Dance Jam, by JOF.

XS OPEN is a new open access public art commission opportunity, available to an independent artist, company or collective to create and premiere a free work in public space. The event will be presented in the City of Maribyrnong as part of the 2020 Melbourne Fringe Festival (the intended space is Nicholson St Mall in Footscray, but this is open to negotiation). The selected artist/s will receive up to $10,000 (excluding GST) towards the development and presentation of the work.

Applications close on 11th May 2020
